No. When people grow old, special emphasis should be given to accident prevention and cognitive stimulations, among other necessities. In most cases, seniors or their families are not aware of those necessities. This lack of awareness may bring about serious diseases.

Is it impossible to avoid frequent hospitalization?

Seniors have multiple pathologies and the risk of becoming unstable is very high. We know, from experience, that certain diseases, often lead to frequent hospitalization. However, most of these situations are due to three causes: the high number of specialists needed as a consequence of the absence of a geriatrician, defective early detection of clinical changes and inadequate allocation of resources.

Is assistance required in the event of an Alzheimer’s case? When?

When families detect dementia symptoms, the onset of the disease occurred at least, two years before and, in general, the dementia is in an intermediate stage. For this reason, it is impossible to leave patients on their own. The risks for themselves or for those living with them are very high and this will become more and more serious as the disease develops. It is necessary, then, to measure the stage of the disease through specific tests and establish the time and type of assistance required.
