Bedsore Intervention Team
- Bedsores are injuries caused by compression of the skin’s pressure areas during prolonged periods, with the most common areas being the sacral and trochanteric regions.
- The formation of bedsores occurs due to reduced oxygen supply in the affected dermal area, either due to atherosclerosis secondary to the patient's age or the compression itself during prolonged periods.
- Since the initial lesion originates deep in the skin, bedsores are detected on the surface once damage has occurred in deeper layers.
- In order to address the damage, a specialized intervention team is necessary to help manage and heal the wounds.
- The team provides comprehensive care that includes: assessment of the lesions, wound cleaning, debridement if necessary, application of appropriate dressings, and advice on pressure relief techniques.
